Shop for a Cause in Encinitas This Weekend

Bliss 101 in Encinitas is holding a special shopping fundraiser for a Carlsbad non-profit Saturday.

What’s better than a Saturday evening spent shopping? Doing it to benefit others.

, a local gifts shop with lifestyle-inspired art, home décor and furniture, is hosting an event this weekend that involves shopping, food, and giving back. On Saturday, the community can visit the store, buy a gift or two and 10 percent of the proceeds will go toward Fresh Start Surgical Gifts.

Fresh Start Surgical Gifts is a non-profit organization providing reconstructive services to youth with physical deformities. It was founded in 1991 and calls Carlsbad home. They provide reconstructive dental and plastic surgery to infants, children and adults free of charge.

The will feature the paintings and sculptures of local Encinitas artist Sholeh Ashtiani. Any of Ashtiani’s artwork sold during the event will be included in the 10 percent that will benefit Fresh Start.

The event will also feature a raffle, with one prize being a matted painting from Ashtiani. Bliss 101 Gift certificates will also be raffled. Complimentary hors d’oeurvres and wine will supplement the evening’s festivities.

According to a press release, Michelle Pius, the CEO of Fresh Start, said the event is a great way of combining charity with community.

“We are delighted to be the beneficiary of this wonderful event,” Pius said. “And to be able to combine fundraising and sharing such a talented artist with the community.”

Ready to shop and give a valuable gift to a deserving individual? Come out and support Fresh Start Surgical Gifts while supporting a local business and socializing with the community. The event takes place at Bliss 101 in Encinitas on April 21 from 6-9 p.m., though any purchases made throughout the day will go toward the 10 percent donation.

This is wonderful news. Congratulations to the students, their instructors and Academy staffRead More members -- and to the supportive parents. A theatre education is the best!

Hi Edward, I didn't hear any reports on the scanner or from sources of crashes, rescues or hardRead More landings.

The public deserves an objective, unemotional, factual public debate on this proposition. So far IRead More am still leaning toward a yes vote, but I am keeping an open mind at least through this month.

That may very well have been part of it. Grandma had an affinity for liquor as well, but grandpaRead More hated alcohol with a passion and wouldn't allow a single drop of it in the house. Sometimes the man's leadership is essential.

Aunt Judy was probably a very lonely person and turned to comfort in a bottle. What a darn shame.

And you know what ladies, if you don't like Batman's way you don't have to do it Batman's way. ThisRead More is America, not Batmerica, and it's not Flanderstan either. My grandmother's sister decided to become a career woman instead of geting married and having a family. She started and ran a very successful accounting business, back in the 1930s! So who needs Flanders and his women's lib? There's nothing standing in your way, there never has been. Flanders and the rest are lying to you. Aunt Judy did become an alcoholic though and died rather young because of it. Would that have been different if she had been a family woman? Nobody knows.

Well said, Nama. I was speechless to see how many people Uncle Ben had influenced during his life,Read More but it's no wonder. There may be one less Ben Taylor in our lives, but Heaven just got a whole lot more fun!

Thanks, Kyle for posting this. I'm not sure how things were in the past, but as a Patch editor, I'veRead More seen that blogging and engaging readers directly is a great way to market a book. Steve Repak, a financial planner with a military-themed personal finance book, blogs regularly on Patch and has recently been featured in National Media.
