Updated: SPY's New Encinitas Billboard: WTF Fun or Offensive?

The Carlsbad-based company's new billboard is up after reporting a loss in the year's first quarter.

Spy's billboard is happy but not its latest earnings report. The Carlsbad-based company reported a net loss of $721,000 of its $9 million of net sales in this year’s first quarter, according to the San Diego Business Journal.  

It increased its sales from the same quarter last year by 11 percent in part because of the sale of its Happy Lens, the Journal added.

SPY Optic is raising eyebrows for that lens again near Moonlight Plaza with its latest billboard.  The Carlsbad-based company stirred up controversy last year with its “Happy to Sit on Your Face” billboard
 
The newest billboard has an image of a man smiling while sitting on a couch and text that seems benign, but will make you drop the F-bomb when read aloud: “Sofa King Happy.” 

Local complaints last year led SPY Optic to remove the “Happy to Sit on Your Face” billboard . The company replaced it with one that read “Happiness is coming..."
