Summer Concert, Musicals and Car Show Cruise Into the Weekend

You made it to the weekend, now what? Patch found your weekend events happening July 19-21.

Summer is heating up with events for the entire family to explore. 

Catch a laugh out loud musical, listen to The Queen of Zimbabwean Mbira Music or cruise over to a car show.

SHREK THE MUSICAL

  • What's Up: The Actors' Conservatory Theatre  will present Shrek The Musical in North County for the first time. The musical is based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig. Opening night will be on Friday, July 19. 
  • When: 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19; 2 & 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21. 
  • Where: Carlsbad Cultural Arts Center,  3557 Monroe St., Carlsbad.
  • Price: $15-$22. 
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM
  • What's Up: Intrepid Shakespeare will present musical version of Shakespeare’s comedy will feature music from The Four Tops, The Temptations, Sam Cooke, The Turtle and more. 
  • When: 8 p.m. on Friday, July 19; 4 & 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 20; 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 21. 
  • Where: Intrepid Shakespeare Company, 800 Santa Fe Dr., Encinitas. 
  • Price: $25-$35. 
ALL-AMERICAN CAR SHOW
  • What's Up: The car show will feature 200 vintage, classic and muscle cars. The event will include food raffle and more. Proceeds will benefit USO San Diego and Operation Homefront serving military members and their families. 
  • When: 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 20. 
  • Where: MiraCosta College San Elijo campus, 3333 Manchester Ave., Cardiff.
  • Price: Free. 
STELLA CHIWESHE: QUEEN OF ZIMBABWEAN MBIRA MUSIC
  • What's Up: Stella Chiweshe is named The Queen of Zimbabwean Mbira Music. She is a chart top mbira musician and is internationally known for singing and playing of the mbira dzavadzimu, a traditional instrument of the Shona people of Zimbabwe.

  • Where: Museum of Making Music, 5790 Armada Dr., Carlsbad.
  • Price: $15 for members; $20 for non-members. 
HERITAGE PARK SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
  • What's Up:  Heritage Park Summer Concert Series will feature gospel music by Curtis Wright, Mo & The Other Guys. 
  • When: 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 21. 
  • Where: Heritage Park, 220 Peyri Dr., Oceanside.
  • Price: Free.
