The Kooks Café Opens Thursday in Cardiff

It's where Beach City Café used to be.

The ‘Cardiff Kook’ has inspired , an , a , a calendar, a — and now, the popular statue has inspired the name of Cardiff’s newest restaurant.

The Kooks Café is slated to open at 7 a.m. Thursday morning, and at 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, it appeared the work crews still had quite a bit on their to-do list.

The restaurant sits next door to in the space formerly occupied by and though most of the interior looks the same, there have been some updates, including a tile backsplash along one wall and some new art depicting local scenes.

The menu includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner offerings — and yes, some of those dishes are inspired by the ‘Cardiff Kook,’ like the ‘Kook Scramble.’ There’s also smoothies, fresh juices, and an espresso bar.

Why is the Encinitas Patch spelling the name of the restaurant differently than what is on their signage? Where's the apostrophe on the Kooks Cafe sign? Or, are there a whole slew of Kooks? Incorrect grammar on signage leaves business establishments open to ridicule, commentary, etc. Maybe Kooks Cafe did it on purpose to get publicity like the Cardiff Kook (singular not plural). Is there an apostrophe in the photo, but I just can't see it?

The body of the story actually listed the name as it appears on the sign, but there was an apostrophe in the headline. Thanks for pointing that out. I have updated the headline. I'm not sure if the restaurant owners intentionally left off the apostrophe or not.
