Heat Wave on the Way Out; Forecast Includes Scattered Showers

The National Weather Service says temperatures will drop to normal next week.

May gray will give way to scattered light rain and a chance of showers countywide starting Sunday afternoon and continuing through Tuesday evening, a National Weather Service forecaster said Saturday.

“Low pressure dropping down from the north will combine with a second low-pressure system off the coast to bring a 40 to 60 percent chance of rain Sunday over and west of the mountains,” NWS meteorologist James Thomas said.

Thomas said there is also a chance for some scattered thundershowers.

“We’re expecting a quarter-inch to a third of an inch of rain along the coast and inland,” Thomas said.

Skies are expected to be mostly cloudy on Wednesday before another, weaker, storm system visits the county on Thursday bringing a chance of light rain.

After unseasonably high temperatures this week, Thomas said near-normal temperatures will return next week.
