ARE YOU READY ENCINITAS

Free Disaster Training Program Offered to Encinitas
Residents

On
March 26th you can learn what you need to know in order to survive 72 hours in
an emergency situation.

When the
massive power outage
hit our region last year, how did you fare? Could you
have easily lasted a few more days without that electricity?

Find out what's happening in Encinitaswith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Experts
recommend that you be prepared to answer that question ‘yes’ with certainty. In
fact, most recommend that you keep enough food and supplies to survive a solid
72 hours in case another disaster hits.

In
an effort to help more Encinitas residents prepare, the Encinitas Fire
Department and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) have joined up to
present a free, one-hour “Are Your Ready” disaster training program on
Wednesday, March 26th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Encinitas
Community and Senior Center.

The
free training will be tailored to address disasters that are likely to hit
Encinitas.

“Our
training will help participants understand the risks specific to our area,
explain what to do ahead of time to minimize the effects of a disaster on our
homes and families, outline the supplies needed to carry us for up to 72 hours
and discuss how to work together with our neighbors in emergencies,” program
coordinator Dave Tostenson states. “A community-wide disaster can overwhelm
public emergency response resources. Building a safe, prepared and strong
Encinitas community is the aim of our ‘Are You Ready’ program. The more people
we can train, the stronger our city will be!”

Encinitas
Fire Department-endorsed Home Disaster Preparedness Starter Kits will also be
available at a reduced price during the training session.

If
you’d like to register for the free training, send an email to AYR
Program Coordinator <d.tostenson@enccert.org> or call Dave Tostenson
at 760-634-5605. Due to limited space, people are encouraged to sign up
early.
