Peter Sprague’s Brasil 2013 Concert

San Diego jazz guitarist Peter Sprague (winner of Best Jazz Artist San Diego Music Awards years 1994, 2000, 2003. 2004, and 2007) leads a group playing his versions of the classic samba songs of Brasil. From “Mais Que Nada”, “Like a Lover”, “Flor de Lis” to “Pontieo”, Sprague and the group will fill the September afternoon with the magic of bossa nova. The group features two vocalists, guitar, bass, sax and drums. Kevyn Lettau will be in the group and she was a member of Sergio Mendes’ band for 8 years and recorded on many of his albums. Sprague also toured with Sergio’s group for 3 tours.

“I've been in love with Brasilian music since I was a little kid and my folks had the Brasil '66 recordings scratching away on the living room turntable. The unique mix of cool rhythms, percussion, beautiful unison voices all riding on top of the sophisticated jazz harmony was pure magic to my ears. The whole dream hit a high spot for me in the mid-nineties when Sergio called me to do some gigs with him and the Brasil' 99 band. We played all of the classic tunes plus some of the music from his Grammy Award winning "Brasiliero" recording, which brings a much more modern angle to his sound.  You know you're living it well when you're on stage in Mexico City playing "Mais Que Nada" in front of 1500 adoring fans with the man that made the song a hit!”
