The Astrological Talent Code: How to Become a Talented Astrologer

Kevin B. Burk  The
Astrological Talent Code:
How to Become a Talented Astrologer

Have you
ever attended an astrology lecture and watched a talented astrologer interpret
a natal chart with ease? But even though you were able to follow along, and
understood all of the material, did you find yourself thinking you could never
do that yourself? The only real difference between you and that talented
astrologer is that the talented astrologer has mastered the skills needed to
interpret a natal chart, and you haven’t … yet. Kevin B. Burk has cracked
the Astrological Talent Code, and in this lecture, will show you how you can
become a talented astrologer.

In his
thought-provoking book, The Talent Code, Daniel Coyle asserts that
talent isn’t something we’re born with; it’s something we develop. Greatness
requires only the right training and the correct approach to developing the
necessary skills. While Coyle uses musicians, athletes, and singers as his
examples, the principles of growing talent apply to every field — including
astrology.

We learn and
master complex skills by breaking those skills down into the smallest possible
components, and mastering each individual component through deep practice. One
of the reasons that so many people struggle to master astrology is that they
don’t break the complex skills into small enough components. Interpreting a
chart actually involves three different sets of skills, and three different
phases.

Phase 1 is Reading the Chart. The set of skills
you need here relate to your ability to look at a chart wheel and correctly
identify the planets, signs and houses. Because this is second nature to so
many astrologers, it’s easy to forget that it is, in fact, a skill, and it took
deep practice (and a certain amount of struggle) to master. Chart reading
skills also include recognizing aspects in the chart (and determining if
they’re applying or separating), and identifying the correct ruler of a house.

Phase 2 is Drafting a Blueprint. When you read a
chart, you pull information and considerations out of the chart. When you draft
a blueprint, you assemble that information into sentences that follow the rules
of grammar and syntax of the language of astrology. These skills enable you to
organize the information and establish the correct relationships between the
planet, sign, houses ruled, and house occupied. You use these sentences as
outlines or blueprints to guide you as you “build” your final interpretation in
phase 3.

Phase 3 is Building a Chair. This is where the art
of astrological interpretation comes into play. You can use the same blueprint
to build a variety of apparently different chairs, although the essential
pattern that defines each chair is the same. For example, you could interpret a
blueprint involving the 3rd house in the context of communication (3rd house)
or a relationship with a sibling (3rd house). You would end up with two
different interpretations, each of which is a valid way that specific
astrological signature could express.
