Wildlife Walk at San Elijo Lagoon

Wildlife Walk:

Santa Inez Trail in San Elijo Lagoon

Join San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy naturalists for a winter Wildlife Walk. Discover winter brackish ponds that shelter hundreds of waterfowl. The dike area of Santa Inez Trail was an early part of restoration efforts in the East Basin in the 1980s. This area received an Orchid Award for the creation of nesting islands and restored habitat for sensitive and endangered species. We’ll also be on the lookout for migratory and resident birds. Recommended Ages 9+

Wildlife Walks occur on various trails in San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve on 2nd Saturdays. The 915-acre reserve is home to 700 species of bird and plants. Although birds are the lagoon’s most charismatic species, many mammals, fishes, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates depend on a range of habitats, extending from salt marsh and coastal sage to streamside areas. RSVP
