Community Resource Center Facing Serious Shortage of Food, Leucadia Farmers Market Pitching in to Help

Give back to those in need in Encinitas this holiday season.

This holiday season the Encinitas’  is facing one of the worst shortages of food donations in recent years, and the is doing its part to help on Sunday, Dec. 11.

Next Sunday, when you visit the market to purchase some healthy food for you and the family, bring some items to be donated to families in need. The farmers market is of canned and boxed foods, cereals and bottled water, all to be donated to Encinitas’ (CRC). If you would like to see a list of the items most needed, you can find a list online.

The center especially needs donations for its Holiday Baskets program, which is in its 29th year.  They are accepting donations through Dec. 15, as baskets get passed out on Dec. 16-18, but will accept last-minute donations.

The holiday baskets are filled with gift items for teens, children, adults and seniors, as well as food for the holidays. Each basket features a turkey (or chicken or ham), for those Christmas Eve dinners, and is given to pre-screened and eligible families.

Want to help a family have a holiday as good as your own? Visit the Leucadia Farmers Market on Dec. 11 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and bring your canned and boxed goods to go to CRC. If you can’t make it to the market that day, drop off your donations at CRC directly, located at 650 2nd St. in Encinitas. Spread the holiday cheer!
