Kid-Friendly New Year's Events

Got kids? Don't worry–we found some family-friendly celebrations in San Diego, Carlsbad and Coronado.

Whether you can’t find a babysitter or just want to hang out with the whole family on New Year’s Eve, Patch has got you covered.

A night usually reserved for some adult fun (complete with adult beverages), New Year’s Eve can be a tough holiday to spend with the kids. Luckily, there are some options Saturday within San Diego that are family-friendly and may even free up some alone time for you and your significant other come midnight.

Here are four picks for kid-friendly events for the end of 2011. Click on the links for additional details and location information.

The New Children’s Museum

Set a day before New Year’s Eve, this event gives kids a chance to have their own celebration and leave Saturday night open for adults.

Music and dancing will be happening throughout the day, with performances by Pink Army, Rhythm Child, Clint Perry & the Boo Hoo Crew, Studio FX, San Diego Guild of Puppetry, and more. The kids-only party is from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and is free with museum admission ($10).

Legoland

Legoland is the ultimate kid-zone anyway, and come Dec. 31, kids can have some NYE fun of their own at the park made of bricks.

Legoland is cutting parents a break and having a special “brick-dropping” ceremony for the kiddos at “midnight” (which is really 6 p.m.) so the kids can get home early and to bed. There also will be fireworks, a concert and lots o’ legos.

Tickets cost $62-$72 and can be bought here. After the kids have their celebration at Legoland, the parents still have time to go out and have their own fun. .

The Sheraton is known for their annual family fun-filled New Year’s Eve bash.

The party starts at 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 with fireworks from nearby Legoland. There will be a dinner buffet with both adult- and kid-friendly food and drinks. A '80s cover band will provide musical entertainment and there will be a kid-countdown at 9 p.m. (while they watch the ball drop on the East Coast) and an adult toast at midnight.

Tickets cost $55-$115. today to ensure a spot!

Mistral at Loews Coronado Bay Resort

The kids and parents can both enjoy a New Year’s Eve dinner.

Adults can enjoy live entertainment with a five-course prix fixe menu, with optional additional wine pairings for $95. Kids can settle down in the Kids Club anytime between 6 p.m.-1 a.m. for some fun and games, plus dinner. Kid pricing is $15 an hour or $80 for the night, including dinner.

Make your reservations for you and the kids by calling 619-424-4000 ext. 6300.

Took this class before a trip to Italy. Very fun and was able to learn quickly with the way theRead More class was taught. Great instructor and wonderful insights. You will enjoy it if you ever wanted to learn Italian. Caio!

This is wonderful news. Congratulations to the students, their instructors and Academy staffRead More members -- and to the supportive parents. A theatre education is the best!

Hi Edward, I didn't hear any reports on the scanner or from sources of crashes, rescues or hardRead More landings.

The public deserves an objective, unemotional, factual public debate on this proposition. So far IRead More am still leaning toward a yes vote, but I am keeping an open mind at least through this month.

That may very well have been part of it. Grandma had an affinity for liquor as well, but grandpaRead More hated alcohol with a passion and wouldn't allow a single drop of it in the house. Sometimes the man's leadership is essential.

Aunt Judy was probably a very lonely person and turned to comfort in a bottle. What a darn shame.

And you know what ladies, if you don't like Batman's way you don't have to do it Batman's way. ThisRead More is America, not Batmerica, and it's not Flanderstan either. My grandmother's sister decided to become a career woman instead of geting married and having a family. She started and ran a very successful accounting business, back in the 1930s! So who needs Flanders and his women's lib? There's nothing standing in your way, there never has been. Flanders and the rest are lying to you. Aunt Judy did become an alcoholic though and died rather young because of it. Would that have been different if she had been a family woman? Nobody knows.

Well said, Nama. I was speechless to see how many people Uncle Ben had influenced during his life,Read More but it's no wonder. There may be one less Ben Taylor in our lives, but Heaven just got a whole lot more fun!

Thanks, Kyle for posting this. I'm not sure how things were in the past, but as a Patch editor, I'veRead More seen that blogging and engaging readers directly is a great way to market a book. Steve Repak, a financial planner with a military-themed personal finance book, blogs regularly on Patch and has recently been featured in National Media. Here's that story: http://oceanside-camppendleton.patch.com/articles/steve-repak-featured-on-npr-fox-friends
