Health Tip: Why Do My Health Problems Keep Coming Back?

Why do my health problems keep coming back? There are many factors related to this, but most often because mechinal, emotional or nutritional stess has been overlooked in the body.

For many people this is a very real and puzzling question. So why do your health problems keep coming back? And why can’t anyone seem to find out why or do something about it? Well, there can be a couple reasons why. First of all, are you following your doctor’s orders?  Your doctor is actually a caring and loving human being just like yourself. He/she wants to see you get well and stay well. They have your health in their best interest. They give you treatment plans, prescriptions, exercise protocols, rehab recommendations, etc., with many years of education and experience to back their reasoning. A lot of people don’t get well simple because they are not following doctors’ orders.

Then there are people who still after seeing 4 or 5 doctors and following their orders as prescribed, have a recurrence of their symptoms and health problems. Obviously there is something being overlooked. What is it?! Putting aside infectious diseases which are passed along to other people such as pneumonia, the Flu or a STD, people get sick from 3 ways; Mechanical, emotional or nutritional stress.  That’s it! One of these stressors on the body is being overlooked, not allowing your body to heal properly.

Mechanical stress is anything that that causes dysfunction in the way the body moves. For example, you sprain your ankle which causes pain and swelling for a week. You can’t walk on it without limping. Because you are limping, you shift your weight to one side of the body. This shift in weight will put mechanical stress on the joints, muscles, and bones which aren’t accustomed to the extra weight. You may soon notice pain in your knee, hips or back. Mechanical stress can come from many sources. Some common sources are: Traumatic Birth, Falls (ice, stairs, etc.), Car Accidents, Physical Work (lifting, twisting or bending), Sports/recreation/workout injuries, Household chores (yard work, shoveling snow, vacuuming), Repetitive stress (computer keyboards, prolonged sitting, manufacturing occupations).

Emotional stress can come from many sources. It is often brought about by relationship issues with family, friends, coworkers, and your boss. It can also be financial hardship, a death of a friend or family member, losing a job or not being able to find a job. Not only does it come from relationships with other people but also from you. How kind you are to you? We have this internal dialogue and critic. If we had a friend that talked to us the way we talk to ourselves, would they be our friend? Probably not. It’s learning how to be kinder and gentler with yourselves. There are only 2 types of relationships; a toxic relationship where people are always abusing us verbally, trying to keep us small and down. And then we have nurturing relationships where people are always glad to see you, always wanting to lend a helping hand, lifting you up.

The effects of emotional stress play a huge role when we are trying to heal from a surgery or an illness. Have you ever met someone that is always sick? Chances are that those same people are suffering from low self-esteem, depression, are always putting themselves down, have a poor attitude, or always upset. Thinking positive and cheerful will make all the difference on your journey to health.

Nutritional stress on the body is often over looked and can be attributed to many health problems such as digestive disorders and bowel conditions, headaches and migraines, skin problems, diabetes, heartburn, constipation, depression to name a few. A person eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is going to have a different health outcome than someone eating a diet with Doritos, Oreos and ice cream. In the short term they may not have any health problems but in the long term, they will have a different health outcome. So the quality of the food we eat makes all the difference in when trying to maintain a healthy body. But not only is the quality of the food you eat important, but how well your body can digest, absorb and assimilate the nutrition from what you are eating. Those are 3 different processes that work independently of one another. And if your digestion is off then chances are that your absorption is off as well. If absorption is off, your cells in your organs and tissue are not getting that nutrition either which can cause inflammation and an adverse reaction to food.

Walter J. Crinnion, ND, explains why people have adverse reactions to certain foods:

“Food intolerances (with the exception of gluten intolerance) are caused by an insufficiency of digestive enzymes to break down a specific food. Adverse food reactions can have an immune component (typically elevated IgG), a digestive component (insufficient levels of digestive enzymes), a compromised mucosal barrier (low secretory IgA and leaky gut), as well as dysbiosis.

In addition to the toxic burden predisposing the immune system to be more reactive, it also leads to reduced digestive function. One of the main targets of common chemical toxicants (e.g., the exhaust found in urban areas) is cellular mitochondria. The mitochondria in each cell are responsible for taking fuel (fats and carbs) and burning them for energy.

Properly functioning, healthy mitochondria are needed to produce sufficient digestive enzymes in addition to providing energy for healthy tissues, organs, and a vibrant state of health. When you are overburdened with toxicants, your mitochondrial function goes down and you are fatigued, possibly overweight, and have trouble with your digestion.

When the body cannot produce enough digestive enzymes, especially enzymes that break down proteins, then it’s more likely to develop adverse reactions to certain foods.”1

It’s important to identify the type of stress on your body that is causing your health problems. It is only when the true cause of your problems are discovered that the treatment is obvious.

Dr. Jared Newman is a Chiropractor and Internal Health Specialist at Newman Chiropractic and Wellness in Encinitas. He has been trained and certified by the Loomis Institute of Enzyme Nutrition to recognize and analyze signs and symptoms of a patients’ problem. He uses that analysis to examine the body for mechanical and nutritional stressors that are a result of a compromised digestive system. He is able to help many people who have structural problems which cause pain and also help them obtain optimal internal health through enzyme supplementation, proper nutrition and digestion of the food they eat. www.NewmanChiroSD.com
