Take Advantage of Low Tides by Visiting the Tide Pools

If Black Friday shopping isn't your thing, why not spend the Thanksgiving holiday enjoying California's tide pools?

San Diego’s tides are at some of their lowest points of the year this Thursday to Sunday, making it the perfect time to head to the beach and check out the local . 

These areas are usually well beneath the surface of the water, but as the tide recedes during the afternoon the reefs are exposed. All sorts of animals can be found in the pools or hiding under rocks, including hermit crabs, anemone, shrimp, sand crabs, octopi, and small fish.

, located on Coast Highway 101 south of K Street, boasts some of the area’s best tide pools.  Other great tide pools can be found at and Torrey Pines Beach.

Tides are expected to be the lowest at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, 3:15 p.m. on Friday, 4:05 p.m. on Saturday, and 4:55 p.m. on Sunday.
