The eight-week training course is Oct. 1- Nov. 19. on Tuesday mornings from 9 a.m. to Noon (and two Saturday mornings) at San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center.
The docent application fee (includes membership) is $90 members; $125 nonmembers. When you apply online, you'll be directed to Check Out to submit the training program fee.

Through Docent Training, you'll learn from experts about the history, flora, and fauna of San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve, and share your passion with others for protecting wetlands.
After completion, you will join a dedicated group of Conservancy volunteers who help foster appreciation of the lagoon’s diverse and rare habitats. Since the founding of San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy in 1987, docents have interpreted the wonders of the lagoon for thousands of visitors from around the world.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Enthusiasm for the natural environment. Training will provide you with all the tools you need to confidently lead walks.
- Complete and submit application (see sidebar), with payment, to SELC. Our volunteers are also County volunteers. Applicants complete a San Diego County Parks & Recreation Volunteer application which includes a background check, a process coordinated by SELC.
REQUIREMENTS

- Attend eight-week Docent Training (Fall 2013)
- Be available for daytime walks offered mid-week or Saturdays
- Lead a minimum of 10 walks a year
