Four Good Reasons to Attend Taste of Cardiff

Need an excuse to get your grub on? We have several.

On Thursday the Cardiff 101 Main Street will host its annual Taste of Cardiff. If you’ve never been, or if you’re on the fence about going this year, Patch has a few points to consider.

1. You get a bang for your buck.  A $25 ticket to Taste of Cardiff buys you food from 19 restaurants, and we’re not talking wimpy chips and salsa. The complete menu is being kept under wraps, but our inside sources tell us options from some of the restaurants include pork sliders, fresh poke cups, tri-tip street tacos, shrimp dumplings and vegetarian cannelloni. As an added bonus for your purchase, you can bring your ticket to at noon on the day of the event and get a free yoga class.

2. You’ll be fostering a friendly food fight. Every year the participating restaurants duke it out for the coveted Golden Fork Award, which is decided by votes from you, the public. Bull Taco has had a stronghold on the title the past couple years, but the competition is itching for those bragging rights.  Who will take the cake this year? You can help decide.

3. It helps our neighborhood. That’s right: Feeding your face will actually be an act of community service. When you buy a ticket, you’ll be supporting the Cardiff 101 Main Street, which is dedicated to making the community a place we all want to live, work and play. Of course, you’ll also be showing our local restaurants some love. And many of them support our community, too. Case in point: Rimel’s and Zenbu use produce grown by kids at Cardiff Elementary whenever possible—and they both serve Zen-sational cheesecake made by Cardiffian Marylou Flanders, which will be featured during Taste of Cardiff.

4. All the cool kids are doing it. Though Taste of Cardiff is only three years old, it’s fast becoming popular with locals. Not only does it draw in the foodies, it’s also big with folks who appreciate homegrown bands. This year the Red Fox Tails will be playing outside of Seaside Market and Adrienne Nims will be entertaining at Ki’s (if you’re not familiar with these local musicians, checkout the YouTube clips attached to this story). Everyone is encouraged to ride their bikes or walk from restaurant to restaurant, and linger with other locals along the way. The event usually sells out, so if you want to come see what all the fuss is about, buy your ticket soon.
