Issue: Is Yoga Ruling a Sign That the Religious Right Is Overreaching?

Judge rejects challenge from Christian-based National Center for Law and Policy—which sued on behalf of parents Stephen and Jennifer Sedlock.

After a San Diego Superior Court judge upheld the Encinitas Union School District’s yoga program, a comment was posted on Facebook: “What’s all this ruckus about yogurt in schools? Everyone knows yogurt’s good for kids!”

Of course, the Christian-based National Center for Law and Policy—which sued on behalf of parents Stephen and Jennifer Sedlock—took the program seriously. But the district argued, and Judge John Meyer agreed, that kids were being led to physical fitness, not religious fealty.

But was the lawsuit a joke to begin with?  Have Christian conservatives pushed back too hard, especially in an age of rising tolerance? Or will the religious right always be sensitive to cultural change? Share your thoughts in the comments?
