3 Arrested at Encinitas Fourth of July DUI Checkpoint

Two people were arrested on suspicion of DUI, and another for allegedly being drunk in public.

Encinitas deputies arrested three people and cited 11 during a DUI/drivers license checkpoint on South Coast Highway 101 Friday night.

Over five-and-a-half hours, 767 vehicles came through the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" holiday weekend checkpoint on the 1800 block of South Coast Highway, according to a news release from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Two people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. A third person was arrested for allegedly being drunk in public.

Deputies also issued 11 citations for drivers license violations.

The checkpoint ran from 8 p.m. Friday to 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
