3 Teens Injured After Fireworks Explosion in Encinitas

Three teenagers were airlifted to area hospitals after an explosion that occurred while they were lighting fireworks Wednesday afternoon on Bonita Drive.

A fireworks explosion Wednesday afternoon in Encinitas caused three teenagers to sustain serious injuries to the face, arms and legs.

The children— two 15-year-olds and a 17-year-old—had been lighting fireworks on the 700 block of Bonita drive, according to San Diego Sherriff’s deputy Todd Norton.

The teenagers were airlifted to area hospitals, he added.
