4 Arrested At Encinitas DUI Checkpoint

A total of 428 vehicles passed through the checkpoint in the 1800 block of South Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department arrested four people suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the Encinitas area, a deputy said today.

A total of 428 vehicles passed through the checkpoint in the 1800 block of South Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas between 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 this morning, said San Diego sheriff's Dep. Lon Nguyen. Twenty-three vehicles received secondary screening and four arrests were made for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Nguyen said.

"Field sobriety tests conducted on three additional drivers suspected of driving under the influence showed, although the drivers had been drinking, they were under the legal limit of .08 percent blood alcohol content," he said.

Fifteen drivers were cited, including three for driving without licenses, two for driving with suspended licenses and one juvenile for a probationary license violation, Nguyen said. --City News Service
