Authorities Looking for Escaped Encinitas Prisoner

Isaac Nachbar ran away from officers Wednesday at Scripps Encinitas Hospital and could be hiding out in the North County area.

Authorities were on the lookout today for a young man who escaped from custody after being arrested on suspicion of stealing a motorcycle.

A patrol deputy saw Isaac Nachbar, 18, pushing a motorcycle near the intersection of South Vulcan Avenue and Encinitas Boulevard shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to sheriff's officials. Believing the two-wheeler was one recently reported stolen in the area, the deputy took Nachbar into custody.

After arriving at the Encinitas Sheriff's Station, the suspect complained of feeling ill, and medics took him to Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas for an evaluation. Once there, Nachbar asked to use the restroom, and a deputy accompanied him as he did so.

Afterward, as the deputy was trying to put handcuffs back onto Nachbar, he broke free and ran out of the trauma center.

Sheriff's personnel and San Diego police searched the area by ground and aboard two law enforcement helicopters but were unable to locate the escapee, officials said.
