Cardiff Burglary Investigation Turns Up No Suspects, Police Say

An alarm company called the station's dispatch Thursday and reported a burglary alarm sounding at a home on Freda Lane.

A burglary investigation in Cardiff Thursday turned up no suspects, according to authorities with the Encinitas station of the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.

Just before 8 a.m., an alarm company called the station’s dispatch and reported a burglary alarm sounding at a home on Freda Lane near Birmingham Drive.

A deputy responded to the alarm and saw obvious signs of a break-in.  The deputy also heard sounds coming from inside the home and backup was called.  Sheriff’s Aerial Support To Regional Enforcement Agencies (ASTREA) and a K-9 unit from Carlsbad Police also responded.

ASTREA made announcements overhead for the burglar to exit the home and deputies also called the phone inside the house, but there was no answer.  When deputies made entry into the home, no one was inside.

While an open window suggested evidence of a valid burglary, police believe the suspect(s) fled from the back of the residence upon the deputy's arrival.  No suspects were actually seen at the residence, however.

All units left the scene shortly after 10:30 a.m.
