Christmas-Morning Fire Destroys Outbuilding

Nobody was injured in the fire that engulfed a building in east Cardiff.

An outbuilding was completely destroyed in an early morning fire Tuesday at a home on Birmingham Drive near Crest Drive.

Encinitas firefighters received the call at 3:43 a.m. and found the outbuilding engulfed in flames. They extinguished the blaze in less than half an hour and spent several hours mopping up.

Deputy Fire Chief Mike Daigle said fire crews prevented the blaze from spreading to several nearby structures.
