Coroner IDs 3-Year-Old Boy Struck By Car

Juan Ruiz of Encinitas was walking next to his mother, who was pushing his sibling in a stroller along the 400 block of Encinitas Boulevard near Quail Drive, shortly before 7:30 a.m. Friday when he was struck, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The driver of a Toyota Camry, a 32-year-old man headed to work, was pulling out of the Essex Heights apartment complex's driveway when the child ran directly into his path on the roadside, sheriff's officials said.

The toddler wound up pinned beneath the sedan, and the driver and a bystander pulled him out, sheriff's officials said.

The boy was taken to a hospital and died shortly after arrival, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.

The motorist was not expected to face charges, Deputy David Loe told reporters. --City News Service
