Drivers on S. El Camino Real Find DUI Checkpoint Saturday Night

More than 1,000 vehicles drove through the checkpoint staffed by sheriff's deputies.

Two drivers were arrested for suspicion of DUI at a checkpoint staffed by sheriff’s deputies Saturday night near the 1700 block of S. El Camino Real, according to Deputy Brenda Wiebe.

The DUI/driver’s license checkpoint operated between 7:30 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., and deputies contacted 588 of the 1,026 vehicles that went through. Sixteen vehicles were sent to a secondary inspection area, where seven field sobriety tests were given. More than 430 vehicles passed through the checkpoint without being contacted by deputies, according to Wiebe.

One person was arrested for a warrant and four citations were issued, including one for driving without a license. Two vehicles were towed.
