Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, Holiday DUI Crackdown

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department is joining law enforcement agencies throughout the nation for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign starting December 13, 2013 through January 1, 2014. Deputies will be conducting DUI patrols to find drunk drivers before they hurt or kill someone.

DUI Checkpoints are also scheduled between 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. in the following Sheriff's contract cities:

  •   December 13 – Vista

  •   December 14 – Encinitas

  •   December 20 – Lemon Grove

  •   December 20 – San Marcos

  •   December 20 – Santee

  •   December 21 – Poway

  •   December 28 – Vista

  •   December 29 – Imperial Beach

    Sheriff Bill Gore said: "We are going to keep our roads safe for travelers heading to visit family and friends. This holiday season, we will show zero tolerance for impaired drivers on the road. If you choose to drive drunk, we will be looking for you, we will stop you and you will be arrested."

    The San Diego County Sheriff's Department recommends these simple tips for a safe holiday season:

    •   Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin;

    •   Before drinking, designate a sober driver and leave your car keys at home;

    •   If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public

      transportation;

    •   If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to call 911.

Here are some sober ride options:

  •   Tipsy Tow

  •   Be My Designated Driver

  •  Trolley

  •  Coaster
