An Encinitas man died Tuesday after crashing into a flatbed tow truck in San Juan Capistrano.
The 64-year-old man who was driving a Lexus RX 350 was traveling at a high rate of speed when it ran into the flatbed tow truck at about 10:50 a.m. just south of Ortega Highway, according to CHP Officer Chris Goodwin.
The driver of the tow truck, a 41-year-old man from Garden Grove, was transported to Mission Hospital with minor injuries, Goodwin said.
The accident forced the California Highway Patrol to close all northbound I-5 lanes at one point, but traffic was flowing at about 2 p.m., said Goodwin.
