DUI Checkpoints, Extra Patrols Scheduled for Labor Day Weekend

The Sheriff's Department will conduct DUI checkpoints, including Encinitas.

Law-enforcement agencies around the county will be stepping up efforts though Labor Day to take drunken drivers off the road. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department has announced the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which begins Friday with DUI/driver’s license checkpoints in San Marcos, Encinitas and Santee.

In Encinitas, deputies will be stopping drivers at DUI/driver’s license checkpoints on Friday, Aug. 17—and Friday, Aug. 31, according to the Sheriff’s Department. There will also be increased DUI patrol in Encinitas on Sunday, Aug. 26.

“By joining this nationwide effort, we will make the county’s roadways safer for everyone throughout the Labor Day period,” Sheriff Bill Gore said in a statement. “If you’ve had too much to drink, don’t even think about getting behind the wheel. Driving impaired is simply not worth the risk. Remember, we will be out in force and we will be watching, so drive sober or get pulled over.”
