The Encinitas Fire Department is hosting a community open house that's sure to offer useful knowledge, and some free fun for the entire family.
On Oct. 13 head to Fire Station 5, 540 Balour Drive, between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to check out the digs and join in the festivities. You can spend the morning touring the fire station, let you kids checkout the inside of an ambulance or the tiller (ladder) truck, or try on firefighter gear.
The open house is part of National Fire Prevention week, which started on Oct. 7 and runs through Oct. 13. Because house fires can break out in a matter of minutes, leaving only a few moments to react and get out safely, eveyone is encouraged to have at least two escape routes planned. The goal of the open house is to teach residents everything they need to know so they can come up with that escape plan.
There will also be face ballon-animals and painting for children, and they can also take a picture with fire safety dog Sparky.
