Encinitas Sheriff’s Deputy Awarded for Keeping Roadways Safer

Encinitas Sheriff's Deputy Dave Toner made the most DUI arrests in the county for 2010.

This week, Encinitas Sheriff’s Deputy Dave Toner was presented with the California Office of Traffic Safety Award for Traffic Safety Excellence.

Deputy Toner made — the highest of anyone assigned to the Sheriff’s Department, or any other agency in the county.

Deputy Toner is a Senior Traffic Deputy who works the night shift in the which includes the cities of Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar. He helps train new deputies, and peers seek his advice on DUI investigations to ensure successful prosecution.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department also won third place in the California Law Enforcement Challenge Impaired Driving Award. The CLEC award recognizes agencies that reduce fatalities and/or injuries on the state’s roadways with particular focus placed on driving under the influence, speeding laws and driver/passenger protection. To keep people safe on the road, deputies conduct DUI checkpoints, saturation patrols, minor decoy operations, bicycle safety rodeos, safety presentations at local military bases and schools, as well as a free two‐hour class to new teen drivers called Start Smart.
