Emergency Center Created in Wake of Power Outage

Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar have formed a joint emergency operations center after today's massive power outage.

With the affecting large portions of San Diego County and portions of Orange and Imperial counties, the cities of Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar activated a joint emergency operations center.  

The center is at Encinitas City Hall and is functioning and operating with staff from all three cities. 

SDG&E indicates that power outages may last up to 12-24 hours with some areas experiencing longer outages until power is fully restored.   It is recommended that residents remain at home and conduct no unnecessary travel on the streets and roadways.

Other important information includes: 

- All emergency services are operational.

- Call 911 only in an emergency. 

- The outage has affected street lights and many traffic signals. Please drive safely and treat non-operational signaled intersections as a four-way stop. 

- Check on family, friends and neighbors welfare and offer assistance as needed. 

- Turn off air conditioners and other high power usage mechanisms to prevent them from unexpectedly coming on when the power is restored. 

- Do not leave candles or other open flames unattended.
