Encinitas Woman Killed in Highway 76 Accident

The crash occurred early Sunday, when the car her husband was driving collided with a truck near the Pala Raceway.

Authorities released the name Monday of an Encinitas woman who was killed over the weekend in a car crash on State Route 76 near Pala Raceway.

Tzerelin Babalcon, 48, was a front-seat passenger in a westbound Mitsubishi Eclipse that collided with an oncoming truck whose driver tried to make a left turn directly in their path just east of Lilac Road shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.

Babalcon, who was only “partially belted” when the accident happened, died at the scene, the agency reported. Her husband, the driver of the car, was taken to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
