Encinitas YMCA Employee Detained for Sending Threatening Texts

The man surrendered to authorities peacefully and was taken in to custody for psychiatric evaluation.

An Encinitas YMCA employee was taken in to custody for psychiatric evaluation Thursday afternoon after he reportedly sent text messages saying that he felt like killing people, according to a report from UT San Diego.

Sheriff’s Lt. Ken Nelson said the 22-year-old man sent the text messages to a friend, who then notified his employer, . The text messages were general and not aimed at anyone in particular.

“We take every one of these types of cases seriously, ,” Nelson told the newspaper. “I believe the public has been sensitive, and law enforcement, to these kinds of things back to Columbine. You don’t know where or when .”
