“Prevent Kitchen Fires” is the theme of the October 6-12, 2013 National Fire Prevention Week and the focus of the Encinitas Fire Department’s Open House. The Open House takes place on October 5, 2013 from 10 am-1 pm at Fire Station #5, 540 Balour Drive. The event will educate the community about kitchen fire safety and much more while enjoying time at the firehouse.
One highlight of the day is a photo opportunity with Sparky the Fire Dog. Open House visitors also can enjoy firefighter-led tours of Station #5, static displays of firefighting equipment and rigs, CPR demonstrations and face painting. People can obtain information from community vendors, and, above all, learn how to prevent kitchen fires.
Put Kitchen Safety on the Front Burner
According to the National Fire Protection Association, “Unattended cooking is the #1 cause of home fires and home fire injuries.” This year’s theme was selected to raise awareness of the need to practice safe kitchen behaviors and give folks the recipe for kitchen safety.
More fires start in the kitchen than in any other part of the home. Come to the Open House and learn how to avoid a potentially devastating cooking fire. Additional details are on the websiteand Facebook.
