Fatal Train Accident in Encinitas Under Investigation

A pedestrian was struck around 6 p.m. Thursday in the 1400 block of South Coast Highway.

An investigation was under way today into the death of a pedestrian struck by a southbound Coaster train in Encinitas.   

The pedestrian was struck in the area of 1400 block of South Coast Highway around 6 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Deputy
D. Patterson. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The county coroner's office was expected to release the pedestrian's name, age and gender following positive identification. The coroner may also disclose the cause and manner of death, including whether it was an accident or suicide.
