Fire Along I-5 Disrupts Traffic

Lanes on the northbound side are closed as firefighters douse the blaze.

A brush fire on the side of Interstate 5 just south of Leucadia Boulevard Saturday prompted the brief closure of two northbound lanes of the freeway while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fire was reported at 3:43 p.m., according to the CHP, although a dispatcher was not permitted to say what time it started and could not release details about the blaze. Around 6 p.m. motorists advised the CHP that the area was smoldering again and fire crews were sent back.

No information about the size of the fire or the damage it caused was immediately available.
