Give up Guns, Get a Gift Card

The last time this event was held, 208 guns were turned in including three assault‐style rifles and a military smoke grenade. Two guns turned out to be stolen and were turned over to the appropriate agency.

If you have an unwanted gun, you can turn it in and get a gift card in return, no questions asked. The Encinitas Sheriff's Station is hosting a Guns for Gift Cards event in the North County on:

Saturday, November 30th
7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Mira Costa Community College – San Elijo Campus
3333 Manchester Avenue, Cardiff
$100 – handguns, $150 – rifles

There is a limit of three gift cards per vehicle. The gift cards can be redeemed at area Walmarts. The Sheriff's Department will utilize $15,000 in asset forfeiture funds to purchase the gift cards. The District Attorney's Office also contributed $5,000 in asset forfeiture funds to purchase the gift cards.

Anyone participating should place the unloaded firearms in the trunk of their cars. A uniformed deputy or officer will give instructions at the location. All weapons collected will be destroyed.

This event is being held in partnership with the San Marcos Sheriff's Station, Vista Sheriff's Station, Sheriff's Bomb/Arson, District Attorney's Office, Carlsbad Police, Mira Costa Community College, Oceanside Police and San Diego Police.
