Gun-Toting Man Robs Encinitas Bank

The man who appeared to have a tattoo of a bird on his neck robbed the Citibank branch office in the 100 block of North El Camino Real and lifted his shirt to display a pistol.

A gun-toting man with what appeared to be a tattoo of a bird on his neck robbed an Encinitas bank Tuesday. The thief, who appeared to be in his late 50s or early 60s, approached a teller at the Citibank branch office in the 100 block of North El Camino Real about 12:30 p.m. and lifted his shirt to display a pistol tucked in his waistband, according to the FBI. He then demanded that the teller put cash inside a dark-colored cosmetics case he was carrying.

After the teller complied, the bandit walked toward an exit, told another employee that he didn't want to hurt anyone, left the bank and fled in an unknown direction. Witnesses described the robber as an unshaven, roughly 6-foot-1-inch man wearing blue jeans, a dark long-sleeved shirt and white tennis shoes. A faded mark on the left side of his neck appeared to be body art depicting some kind of winged creature, the FBI reported.
