The Helen Woodward Animal Center donated oxygen masks Thursday to 12 fire crews who serve Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar and Solana Beach.
Employees of the center said they were inspired to make the donation after seeing a report of a dog being saved with a pet respirator at a fire in Long Beach. Each kit comes with three masks designed to fit small, medium or large animals.
“Helen Woodward Animal Center is in the business of saving lives,” said Mike Arms, the president of the HWAC. “Providing these kits to firefighters is an extension of the work that we're already doing.”
