Motorist Leads Officers on Pursuit from Encinitas

The 20-minute pursuit began around 1 a.m., Thursday and went from Interstate 5, southbound I-805 and Route 94.

A speeding motorist led officers on a pursuit today from Interstate 5 in Encinitas to the Webster area of San Diego and was arrested, authorities said.

The roughly 20-minute pursuit began on southbound I-5 around 1 a.m. and spilled onto southbound I-805 and then state Route 94 before ending in the 1600 block of 49th Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The motorist, whose name was not immediately released, was speeding in excess of 100 miles per hour when he initially refused to yield to a CHP officer, the agency reported. No serious injuries were reported, though the CHP said that the man was bitten by a police dog after he made a failed attempt to run away.
