Newly Appointed Commander Prepares for New Gig

Poway Sheriff's captain Mark Elvin will replace Commander Glenn Revell in overseeing the Encinitas Sheriff's Station.

After being informed of his promotion exactly one week ago, Mark Elvin is already assuming some of his new duties.

Poway Sheriff's Capt. Elvin has been appointed to the commander position. He will oversee Encinitas, Ramona, 4S Ranch and Poway, among other communities.

“Throughout his 22-year career, Mark has distinguished himself in every assignment, earning the respect of his peers, supervisors and subordinates alike," said Sheriff Bill Gore, who appointed Elvin to the position.

Elvin, who said he was "shocked" to hear of his promotion, replaces Glenn Revell, who retired after 28 years of service. Elvin will continue to serve as the Poway captain until a replacement is named.
