New Service Lets Encinitas Residents Track Crime

A website used by the Sheriff's Department has now gone public.

Encinitas residents can now access Crimemapping.com, a site that was only available to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Crimemapping.com analyzes and maps crime data from arson to assault, burglary, drugs/alcohol violations, DUI, fraud, homicide, car theft, robbery, sex crimes, vandalism, car break‐in, weapons violations, and even multiple crimes at a single location.

Local crimes are mapped with icons that give detailed information about each incident. Data can also be compiled into a report, or as a graph to show patterns and trends. There’s also an option to sign up for email alerts and email the link to others, which would be useful for neighborhood watch groups. You can also get crime prevention tips on the site.

The Sheriff’s Department is partnering with Automated Regional Justice Information System (ARJIS), the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), and law enforcement agencies across the county to bring this service to the public at no cost.

You can watch a step‐by‐step video tutorial on how to use all the features on Crimemapping.com.
