Renovations Near Completion on Encinitas Fire Station No. 6 in Olivenhain

The station on Rancho Sante Fe Road will allow units to be dedicated full-time to providing fire support to the rural area, just in time for the height of fire season.

The new Encinitas fire station in Olivenhain that will house firefighters 24 hours a day is nearing completion, according to U-T San Diego.

“I think we can get it wrapped up in a couple weeks,” Battalion Chief Dismas Abelman told the newspaper.

The station on Rancho Sante Fe Road will allow units to be dedicated full-time to providing fire support to the rural area, just in time for the height of fire season. The station will be located in a former office building, which is being renovated to include dorm areas, showers, and a kitchen.

A mini-station was established last year. In June, the Encinitas City Council voted to approve the hiring of three full-time firefighters who will man the station.

According to the newspaper, before the opening of the mini-station, fire and or ambulance support was getting to 80 percent of "high priority" calls in the Olivenhain area in an average response time of 11 minutes. That number is more than half of the response time for services in other areas of Encinitas.
