Serial Guitar Thieves Arrested

Two Encinitas stores were hit by the thieves.

Timothy Ferrara, 23,and his brother Kristopher, 27, were arrested Sunday, Jan. 8, for a series of music store burglaries across North County.

The brothers would pose as customers, and then steal guitars. Throughout the month of December, the pair hit several local businesses, including: Moonlight Music and American Music Exchange in Encinitas (both of which incidents were reported in our weekly crime blotter); Moonlight Mart in Solana Beach; Lentz Guitar in San Marcos; as well as businesses in Carlsbad and San Diego. The guitars they sole retailed from $600 to $3,000, and most of them were later recovered from area pawn shops, according to a news release from the San Diego County Sherriff’s Department.

Deputy Aaron Bailey arrested the burglars in the 600 block of Lomas Santa Fe in Solana Beach at 12:15 p.m. Sunday. The brothers were also arrested on additional theft and drug related charges and booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
