Sheriff's Blotter: Woman Arrested After Parked Car Smashes Encinitas Storefront

Items of note from the Encinitas station of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department as of Oct. 25, 2011

A woman whose identity could not immediately be confirmed was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and child endangerment after causing a parked car to crash through an Encinitas storefront around 3 p.m. Oct. 24.

The accident remains under investigation, Sgt. Mark O'Connor of the Encinitas Sheriff's station said. The woman was driving a vehicle that turned into a shopping center at 425 Santa Fe Drive and struck a parked car, he said.

The woman's vehicle accelerated for an unknown reason, pushing the parked car through a window at the front of Wyatt Health, a store that provides items such as wheelchairs and other medical supplies to care givers.

No one was hurt and the store remains open, but the woman was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, O'Connor said. Because a child was in the vehicle as well, she was also arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, he said.

A name provided in the initial report could not be immediately confirmed.
