Man Arrested, Charged With Murder in Connection With Encinitas Shooting

Michael Vilkin, 61, is charged with one count of murder and will be booked in Central Jail, according to authorities.

A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting that left one person dead in Encinitas on Thursday.

Michael Vilkin, 61, is charged with one count of murder and will be booked in Central Jail, according to authorities.

Authorities responded to the deadly shooting in the 2900 block of Lone Jack Road in eastern Encinitas shortly after 9 a.m., according to authorities.

The victim, who appeared to have suffered a gunshot to the head, died at the scene. The identification of the victim and the exact cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office.

Homicide Detectives are continuing to investigate the dispute, involving Vilkin, which led to the shooting and death of the victim, according to authorities. Authorities said witnesses in the area have been contacted, a warrant has been obtained, and a search of the property is being conducted.
