Sheriff's Blotter: Lodge Worker Suspected of Embezzlement

Items of note from the desk of the Encinitas station of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department as of June 14.

  • A worker at a local lodge was arrested on suspicion of employee embezzlement in the 100 block of Chesterfield Drive on the evening of June 7, according to reports at the Encinitas station of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Jose Luis Madora, 30, a cashier, is suspected of taking $1,165 in cash from the Cardiff By The Sea Lodge, according to a report. Records show he remains jailed on $20,000 bail. In addition to embezzlement, Madora is being charged with two counts of theft, according to jail records. A court appearance is scheduled for June 16.
  • An 18-year-old man was arrested on a felony vandalism allegation after a complaint in the 800 block of Nolbey Street during the early morning hours of June 12. In addition to the felony, the suspect, Ryan Russo, was booked into the County Jail in Vista on misdemeanor public drunkenness. According to a report, a pickup truck and miscellaneous property were damaged. 

  • Deputies arrested a 31-year-old man after he allegedly robbed a man near Encinitas Boulevard and North El Camino Real on the afternoon of June 9. The victim, 72, sustained a minor injury in the incident, according to a report. At the time of his arrest, Edward Huerta was reportedly armed with some type of cutting instrument. He was booked into the County Jail in Vista on a felony robbery allegation. 

  • Vandalism was reported by the San Dieguito Union High School District during the early morning hours of June 13 in the 800 block of Santa Fe Drive.  Property belonging to Spanky's Portable Services and Edco was also reported damaged.

  • A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse in the 800 block of Passiflora Avenue on the afternoon of June 12. Gregory Abbott was booked into the County Jail in Vista on suspicion of battery and elder abuse, both misdemeanors. 

  • Deputies arrested a 52-year-old woman after being called to the Home Goods store in the 200 block of North El Camino Real on the afternoon of June 12. Lori Hochman was booked into the County Jail in Vista on felony burglary and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. More than $89 in miscellaneous household goods were reportedly recovered.

  • Two juveniles were arrested in separate incidents after allegedly striking adults. One allegedly struck a 41-year-old woman in the 100 block of Diana Street on the evening of June 11. Another juvenile is accused of striking a 51-year-old man on Avenida De Las Adelsas on the morning of June 11. Both suspects, whose names were not released, were booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of misdemeanor battery. 

  • A 34-year-old woman reported the theft of a bicycle on North Rancho Santa Fe Road on the evening of June 12. The gray bike was valued at $125. No suspect information was reported. 

  • Charles Lachelier, 57, was arrested after a man reported being battered in the 1300 block of Hermes Avenue on the morning of June 9. He was booked into the County Jail in Vista on a misdemeanor battery allegation.  

  • An 18-year-old man reported being robbed of his wallet at Santa Fe Drive and Nardo Road on the evening of June 10. He sustained a minor injury, according to a report, and the loss of the wallet and cash valued at $50. No suspect information was reported. 

  • Hansen Surfboards reported being victimized by an unidentified shoplifter on the afternoon of June 10 in the 1100 block of South Coast Highway 101. About $34 in clothing was reported stolen. No suspect information was listed. 

  • An unnamed victim reported being robbed in the 2100 block of Village Park Way on the afternoon of June 9. The victim reported the theft of a $50 backpack, which was reportedly recovered. No suspect information was listed. 

  • John Jones, 51, was arrested after deputies served a warrant in the 100 block of Aberdeen Drive on the morning of June 9. He was booked into the County Jail in Vista on the felony warrant, the nature of which was not disclosed in the report. 

  • Deputies arrested a 21-year-old man on a probation violation after stopping him on Moonlight Lane at Beach Overlook on the afternoon of June 8. In addition to the violation, Farzad Daftari was booked into the County Jail in Vista on suspicion of public drunkenness. 

  • Deputies arrested a 22-year-old woman on felony drug possession allegations in the 700 block of Arden Drive on the afternoon of June 7. Erica Blaney was booked into the County Jail in Vista on additional misdemeanor allegations of being under the influence, willful cruelty to a child and public drunkenness. 

  • Liquor was reported stolen from the Vons in the 200 block of North El Camino Real on the morning of June 7. The item was valued at $20. No suspect information was reported. 

  • Kirk Hansen, 32, was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor battery after deputies responded to a call in the 400 block of Santa Fe Drive on the morning of June 7. He was booked into the County Jail in Vista. 

    • James Rudolph, 56, was arrested on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant after being stopped in the 1100 block of South Coast Highway 101 on the morning of June 8. He was booked into the County Jail in Vista.

    Vehicles reported stolen:

    • 200 block of Leucadia Boulevard on the morning of June 8. Described as a white, two-door sedan valued at $3,000.
    • 2000 block of South Coast Highway 101 on the afternoon of June 8. Described as gray pickup truck valued at $10,000.

    Vehicle burglaries with items stolen valued at less than $400 (petty theft) reported at:

    • 2000 block of Manchester Avenue on the morning of June 9. Gas stolen and lock damaged with a total value of $160.
    • 600 block of Arden Drive on the morning of June 9. Case of liquor valued at $110 reported missing.
    • North El Camino Real at Encinitas Boulevard on the afternoon of June 13.

    Vehicle vandalism reported:

    • 300 block of Sprucewood Drive on the morning of June 9.

    Burglaries, hot prowls, or grand theft from buildings (items valued at $32 to $840):

    • Village Wine & Spirits, 1500 block of Encinitas Boulevard on the afternoon of June 8.

    • Kim's Restaurant, 700 South Coast Highway 101 on the morning of June 2.

    • 500 block of Faith Avenue on the evening of June 8.

    • 200 block of South El Camino Real on the evening of June 13.
