Train Accident in Sorrento Valley Disrupts Coastal Rail Services

Two people were injured in the accident.

Two people were injured when an Amtrak train struck a commercial truck in Sorrento Valley Thursday, halting rail runs through the coastal corridor, officials say.

The locomotive struck the big rig near Sorrento Valley Road and Sorrento Valley Boulevard about 3:30 p.m. No one on the train was injured, San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman Maurice Luque said. The two injured were the drivers of the trucks, he added. It was not clear if the second truck was also hit by the train, he said.

Rail service through the area was expected to be on hold until further notice.
