Woman Identified in Cardiff Crash That Killed 2, Injured 3

According to the Sheriff's Department, alcohol may have been a factor in the collision. An investigation is ongoing.

An investigation is continuing into a Sunday night crash near the intersection of Manchester Avenue and Mackinnon Ranch Road in Cardiff that left two people dead and three injured, authorities said.

According to Encinitas Traffic Sgt. Mark O'Connor, a Porsche with three occupants inside was traveling eastbound on Manchester at a high rate of speed around 8 p.m. when it lost control and collided with a Chevy pickup truck traveling westbound on the same road.

When deputies arrived at the scene, a male passenger of the Porsche was found dead inside the vehicle and another passenger, a female, was found dead on the roadway.  The driver was airlifted to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest with serious injuries, O'Connor said.

According to the Medical Examiner's Office, the woman has been identified as 40-year-old Christina Donaghy. The other passenger, believed to be a 61-year-old man from Tahoe City, has not yet been positively identified, O'Connor said. The name of the driver has not been released.

The occupants of the pickup truck were taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance.  The driver, a male, sustained minor injuries and his female passenger was treated and released, O'Connor said. Their names were not available.

According to O'Connor, alcohol may have been a factor in the collision.  Test results on whether the driver of the Porsche was intoxicated at the time of the crash are pending, the sergeant said.  A toxicology screening on the other motorist determined that he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Witnesses reported that the driver of the sports car was speeding at 70 to 80 mph just prior to the collision, while the driver of the truck appeared to be obeying the speed limit, O'Connor said.
