Woman Drives Car off Del Dios Hwy., Rescued by Helicopter Search

She is recovering today from her injuries.

A 19-year old woman is recovering from injuries today after she drove her Toyota Corolla off Del Dios Highway into a deep ravine just west of Lake Hodges Monday night around 9:30.

Her car landed upside down, trapping her inside. Thick vegetation and the dark night sky made the search and rescue especially difficult. San Diego Sherriff’s deputies ultimately relied on a helicopter to find her, according to a news release from the agency.

After being rescued from her car, the driver was transferred to Palomar Hospital, where she was treated for a broken ankle and some minor injuries.
