Story updated at 10:54 a.m.

Firefighters rescued a woman trapped on an Encinitas cliff early today as deputies arrested a man who claimed to be her boyfriend because he was in violation of a restraining order.

Deputies patrolling the 1300 block of South Coast Highway 101 at about 12:15 a.m stopped to investigate a parked car with its hazard lights on and discovered it was empty, except for a dog that was left behind. They walked over to the edge of a nearby cliff and heard a woman screaming for help, according to a report released by the Sherriff’s Department.

The woman was found trapped in some thick brush on the side of a cliff, and the Encinitas Fire Department was called to get her out. She was rescued and transported to the hospital where she was treated for moderate injuries. It was later determined the female had fallen trying to access the beach, and she was later cited for a municipal code violation for trespassing on the cliffs.

During the rescue, Jeremy Tomashek—a man who identified himself as the woman’s boyfriend—approached deputies. Deputies questioned Tomashek and found out he was in violation of a domestic violence restraining order, which has been requested by the woman last month. He was booked into the Vista jail, according to San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Maria Wood.
